Muscovy Duck Update (8/25)

As of 8/24, the Board has been informed of a community-led effort to address our Muscovy duck population and is pausing further action until the next Board meeting.

Muscovy ducks are a nonnative species in Florida, and FWC and federal regulations limit how they may be managed, including prohibiting the release of captured ducks back into the wild. Earlier this year, the Board asked residents to stop feeding the ducks and utilized a professional trapper when relocation options were available.

With increasing numbers of ducks being killed by vehicles and predators, the issue remains a community safety and environmental concern. Euthanasia was never the Board’s preferred approach.

We will continue working with residents to identify a humane, responsible solution consistent with FWC and federal guidelines.
